I’m a digital editor based in New York. My work — spanning interactive design, editing, writing, and teaching — gives me a unique perspective on digital publishing. I’ve worked closely with writers, editors, designers, developers, and artists in news organizations and design studios large and small. I've also managed an independent web design practice, self-published artist books and even (many moons ago) drove a boutique ice cream truck that catered to dogs.

Because of this wide range of influences, I take a holistic approach to my work and am interested in storytelling that seamlessly combines language and form. As both a designer and editor, I see myself as an advocate for the reader and prefer to have a hand in all aspects of crafting content, from the text and paratext to design, photo editing and illustration.

I have a healthy distrust for slickness and surface beauty; for its power to convince, attract, distract, and manipulate. A successful work is something you can feel in your gut, something visceral — be it pleasing, a little wonky or otherwise — so that you can sense the hand that guides you.

I’m currently working as an associate editor at Urban Omnibus, the online magazine of The Architectural League of New York, where I also manage the League’s social media.

Before that, I was working on the @nytimes Instagram team curating a weekly lineup of Times articles to adapt into narrative stories for their 18 million followers, with the goal of bringing in a new generation of lifelong digital subscribers.

Prior to that, I worked as a multimedia/graphics editor on the digital news design team at The Times, producing special projects with Antonio de Luca (including a piece about the making of the current MTA subway map and a series of animated video interviews with musicians like Taylor Swift and Lil Tecca.)

Since 2017, I've been teaching undergraduate classes in design and creative coding at schools in the New York area, including The New School, Rutgers, Pratt Institute and Purchase College. My teaching site, talking-digital.net, is available as a resource for other educators, in the spirit of open source, and as a place to gather all that I’ve learned from other professors over the years.

My work is in the collections of The Cooper Hewitt Museum, Brooklyn Public Library, NYPL’s Map Division, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki Library, and Los Angeles Contemporary Archive (LACA).
